President, Diversified Agencies, McCann Worldgroup
Growing up in Detroit, Bill’s adventurous spirit and love of music developed at a very young age. During his childhood, he played many instruments and excelled at piano. His musical passion still continues to this day, and you will often hear songs coming from his office. As for his sense of adventure, it’s part of what makes him a successful leader. He’s not afraid to take risks and try something new that will make clients and competitors stand up and take note.
In his early days as a copywriter on the book Vanishing Animals, Bill used to “hang out” with Andy Warhol. But instead of seeking his own 15 minutes, he has devoted more than a decade to making our organization one of the best in the industry.
Bill is a seasoned leader with more than 20 years of experience marketing both large and entrepreneurial companies, working with multinational clients such as Anheuser-Busch, Bacardi, Intel, Kmart and Coca-Cola. He has been a keystone at MRM//McCann since 2003 in roles such as President, COO and CEO. Today, based in his hometown of Detroit, Bill is the Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth//McCann, the agency handling the global Chevrolet account. If that’s not enough to fill his schedule, he continues to lead the overall business of MRM//McCann as Chairman and also oversees the McCann Worldgroup Detroit operations.
His vision and drive are inspirational. And his inspiration is contagious. He brings the kind of creativity you’d find at Warhol’s “Factory” to McCann Worldgroup—without making it feel like a factory at all. It’s why the business and culture of MRM//McCann, McCann Detroit and Commonwealth//McCann have flourished under his stewardship.
